The Best Time to Buy Gas

The Best Time to Buy Gas

With so much pain happening around the pump nowadays, every drop of fuel in our rides matters. Did you know there are optimal times to buy gas that can help to stretch this even further?

If you buy in the middle of the day for example, when the sun is out strongest here in Connecticut and the temperature is up high in the summer months, then the gas is also warmer and less dense. Because of this, if you fill up, you won’t actually be getting as much gas as you potentially could.

The less-dense gas means it will take up more space in your tank and get you to the full line quicker. Instead what you can do is get your gas in the morning or later at night when you know you’re going to need it. This is better because the temperature is lower and the gas is denser during this time. So you pay less and you can end up with more to use in your tank!

Here are a few more tips to help you next time you’re filling up at the pump.

  1. When it comes time to fill up your tank – don’t pump too quickly. If you pour the gas in too fast it can cause air bubbles in your tank and this can mean some of your fuel isn't going into your vehicle. Most pumps are running as they should when you pull up but if you notice one is going extremely fast or there’s an issue- stop pumping, adjust your finger pressure on the nozzle trigger or notify an attendant.

  2. Some people also swear by turning their car and all other accessories off when they are in the process of pumping gas. This will most only keep you safe but can also stop you from wasting energy when it’s not being used anyway. Turn off any things like lights, A/C, and heaters.

  3. Letting your car run idle over time can waste gas. If there is no reason to have it running, then shut the engine off completely. When it’s time to travel again, only then should you start it up again. Most experts say to even wait up to 3 minutes before your restart the vehicle to give it the most efficiency.

Keeping up with routine maintenance is one of the easiest ways to conserve fuel, and it can also save you money on repairs down the road.
